Business schools always say they’re on leading edge of corporate development, boasting on-campus incubators and electives on design reasoning. But nearly all depend on a teaching tool that’s hardly altered much more than a century. To master how to lead businesses, MBA students study a huge selection of situation studies—stripped-down narratives about a strategy issue at a genuine business—and discuss the way they would handle the challenge.
For Harvard Business class, which developed and popularized the strategy— the institution taught its first instance in 1912—case scientific studies tend to be a cottage industry in addition to a bedrock associated with the curriculum.
